This integrated course develops foundational academic reading and writing skills essential for success in higher education. Students build core grammar and sentence-level writing skills while learning to understand academic vocabulary and common text structures. Through guided practice, students learn how reading supports writing by analyzing how ideas are organized in academic texts and applying these patterns to their own paragraph writing. 

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

1. Write clear and grammatically accurate sentences using basic academic structures
    
2. Develop well-organized academic paragraphs with effective topic sentences and supporting details
    
3. Apply core grammar skills appropriately in academic writing
    
4. Use academic vocabulary accurately in both reading and writing tasks
    
5. Identify common academic text structures (e.g., description, comparison, cause and effect)
    
6. Analyze how ideas are organized within academic texts
    
7. Infer word meaning from context while reading academic materials
    
8. Demonstrate improved reading comprehension and accuracy
    
9. Integrate ideas from reading texts into their own academic paragraph writing
    
10. Read and write academic texts with increased clarity, accuracy, and confidence
